Ancient Greek Painted Pottery Lekythos, 500 BC
Directly from Jerusalem, an ancient Greek highly painted pottery LEKYTHOS, dating to approximately 500 BC

Lekythoi (plural of lekythos) were used to hold oil or perfume, especially during religious ceremonies also at baths and gymnasiums and for funerary offerings
The flask has a long, cylindrical body gracefully tapered to the base, and a narrow neck with a loop-shaped handle.

There are several variations in shapes; the cylindrical type, like this one, was first seen in the last third of the sixth-century and would predominant as the main type of lekythos in the fifth century.

Measurements: Height: 21 cm - Diameter: 6.5 cm

Condition: Handle is professionally repaired hard to see as shown in the pictures otherwise intact

Found in Samaria north of Jerusalem, Israel
